Tailored Patient Activation to Reduce Suicide Risk in Primary Care

Suicide is among of the top 10 leading causes of death among adults in the United States. Among individuals who die by suicide, 45 percent see a primary-care provider within a month of dying, yet rarely share their thoughts. This research program will determine if new tools such as the Multimedia Activation to Prevent Suicide (MAPS) will activate patients with thoughts of suicide to discuss their thoughts with a primary-care physician and increase their receptiveness to treatments that can reduce suicide risk.
